Word of The Day: Cunt (Ew Gross I know…But why?)

Filed under: Word of The Day — toddyenglish @ 10:36 pm

Dear Friends:

Why is the word “cunt” considered such a vile epithet? Today I was in the grocery store and an irate customer called the cashier a cunt. My reaction (and those of the other customers) was one of disgust! Myself, I was raised a very polite southern gentlemen. So I’m not very vulgar. Yes, occasionally my conversation will be sprinkled with a few naughty words every now and again; however, that’s mainly when I’m being fun and silly. When I’m upset I never swear…let alone use words like CUNT.

Which is why I asked the question…

Why is cunt so much more vulgar than calling someone a dickhead? Why is a woman’s anatomy, when used in the context of an insult, so much more vile than a man. Granted, I really like dick but that’s besides the point. Why does calling someone a dickhead illicit a chuckle whereas “CUNT” inspires apalling abhorrence?

The Words of The Day: Words starting with the Letter ‘R’

Filed under: Word of The Day — toddyenglish @ 4:25 pm

GRAFFITI_ALPHABET_R_coloring-pages-book-for-kids-boys[1]

Dear Friends:

‘R’ is my favorite letter of the alphabet. There are so many wonderful words beginning with the letter ‘R’ such as: Redemption, Revenge, Ravish, Ravage, Rage, Russian Roulette (more of a phrase), Rated R, Rihanna, Remorse, Radiance, Radicalism, Rainbow, and Ramification and etc (just naming a few). However, I’m going with a few that you, more than likely, don’t hear everyday…

On the list today are: Rachmaninoff, Raison D’etre, and Rapacious.

1.) Rachmaninoff - Russian-born composer. A virtuoso pianist, he excelled at the interpretation of the late romantic composers. His own work is largely a continuation of that genre. (pronounced: rock mahn nin off)

2.) Raison d’etre – reason or justification for being or existence: Art is the artist’s raison d’être. A basic, essential purpose; a reason to exist: “Professor Naylor argues that in the nuclear age, infantry forces have lost their raison d’être.” From French, meaning “reason for being.” (pronounced Ray Zohn Det Ruh.)

3.) Rapacious - [adjective] – excessively greedy and grasping

Use them in a sentence today…or try composing a sentence made completely of ‘R’ words.

Sincerely,

Toddy English.
