Dear Friends:
‘R’ is my favorite letter of the alphabet. There are so many wonderful words beginning with the letter ‘R’ such as: Redemption, Revenge, Ravish, Ravage, Rage, Russian Roulette (more of a phrase), Rated R, Rihanna, Remorse, Radiance, Radicalism, Rainbow, and Ramification and etc (just naming a few). However, I’m going with a few that you, more than likely, don’t hear everyday…
On the list today are: Rachmaninoff, Raison D’etre, and Rapacious.
1.) Rachmaninoff - Russian-born composer. A virtuoso pianist, he excelled at the interpretation of the late romantic composers. His own work is largely a continuation of that genre. (pronounced: rock mahn nin off)
2.) Raison d’etre – reason or justification for being or existence: Art is the artist’s raison d’être. A basic, essential purpose; a reason to exist: “Professor Naylor argues that in the nuclear age, infantry forces have lost their raison d’être.” From French, meaning “reason for being.” (pronounced Ray Zohn Det Ruh.)
3.) Rapacious - [adjective] – excessively greedy and grasping
Use them in a sentence today…or try composing a sentence made completely of ‘R’ words.
Sincerely,
Toddy English.

Hey, Rachmaninov is one of my FAVORITE composer/pianists!
